Description

A publication I love had asked for design submissions with the leading theme to be our interpretations of ‘home’. This got me thinking about how I view and interpret ‘home’. I thought of how our home changes as we grow, both physically and emotionally. I see the connection of our physical homes to our inner homes. We move cities, neighborhoods and apartments. We also move to new emotional depths and thought processes. We change; our homes change. Our interior changes; our exterior changes.

My sweater showcases a soft brioche panel running down the front center of a cozy sweater. The panel uses easy brioche increases to display the way we move and change pathways physically and emotionally through our lifetime.

This seamless top-down pullover begins with a brioche ribbing and then transitions with basic yoke increases to a stockinette body and flows seamlessly into the brioche front panel. When yoke increases occur, so do shifts in the brioche panel. The soft brioche panel will continue to shift throughout the body of the sweater; this will create a slight A-line shape for the body. The arms are separated and worked later. The cuffs on the arms begin mid forearm for a longer brioche cuff. The whole sweater is made with one strand of sport weight and one strand of mohair held together throughout.
