Description
The Nacarat was first published in Pom Pom Magazine Issue 33. This shawl idea has been marinating in my brain for a while. I live near a beach park that is located on a street called Creosote. There are old dock logs there covered in creosote, which looks like black tar dripping down the wood. This image gave me this idea for this shawl. I wanted to portray a stitch that looks like it is melting down the body of the shawl. Sometimes we have to burn everything down to start again. There is growth and transformation in fire. My inspiration for this shawl is transformation by way of fire.
Nacarat shawl begins at one long edge and is worked decreasing on the right side of the shawl until you reach the end point. Two-color brioche is worked back and forth until mid way through the shawl, then columns of brioche are replaced with stockinette on the right side and reverse stockinette on the wrong side. The brioche columns continue to be replaced with reverse stockinette along the wingspan of the triangle. This should appear that the brioche is melting or dripping down the shawl. The first stitch of each row is slipped to give a nice edging.
