Description
I was lucky to meet Lynne of West Coast Colour in person and fell in love with her yarn, especially Homegrown. It has an incredible softness and strength to it. It is so bouncy and feels great against the skin. I was so excited to cast on. The funny thing is, when I casted on, I had a complete other plan for it; I was seeing cables and fringe. Very quickly, my hands and this yarn had a different plan, and Westerly was born. This shawl is such a fun experience, first with the sensory feel of the yarn and then with a play on textures. I hope you enjoy knitting and wearing this shawl as much as I do.
Westerly starts with a garter tab cast-on. It is then worked back and forth in garter stitch, increasing on the wingspan border stitches and in the shawl center to create a triangle. The border stitches are increased at a higher rate than the center to make the wingspan grow slightly larger than the center point of the shawl. Bobbles and loop stitches are added to the body of the shawl for texture and fun. After the shawl body is worked, the border is created using a 2×2 ribbing. Finally, Westerly is bound off with a stretchy bind off of your choice.
