Description
During the summer, I took my kids to a neighborhood park. In this park they have community garden beds, filled with Nasturtium plants. When I picked up a fallen Nasturtium leaf, the shape of the leaf inspired me. It reminded me of a half-circle shawl. The beautiful leaf veins coming from the center reminded me of brioche ribbing. From this leaf, I was given a shawl design that I couldn’t wait to make happen.
Nasturtium Shawl begins with a Garter-Tab Cast-On and is worked back and forth in garter stitch while increasing with kfb’s on designated increase rows. Two-Color Brioche is introduced to mimic the growing ‘leaf veins’ in the shawl. Simple brioche increases are used to grow the ‘leaf veins’ in the shawl over a shawl body of garter stitch. This shawl is bound off using an I-Cord Bind-Off.
Intermediate
Skills Needed: slipped stitches, basic brioche (brk/ brp/ sl1yo), brioche increases (brkyobrk), kfb’s, working a large amount of sts flat, and I-Cord Bind-Off.
