Description
I woke up one morning with this cowl idea floating around in my head. I immediately looked up how to do a little bird cable and wasn’t happy with the pattern in the book, so I created a new design! This little bird cable is made very much like part of a caliper cable (as featured in my Fern Cliff Shawl design). This was such a fun cowl to design — from subconscious to substance.
As we descend into the colder months, I knew I wanted a colorful, warm cowl that would protect my neck and chest from the cold winter winds. The height of this cowl is designed to block out the cold chills, but can also be folded down while you are inside. The combination of the little bird cables and color striping add interest to this simple knit cowl.
This cowl is worked in the round, making a small tube until the length (circumference) of cowl is reached. This is easy to adjust if you would like a longer cowl. Color striping is added along with the little bird cables, with some of the little bird cables reaching over into the next color section. Once you have finished working the cowl, simply graft together the ends of the tube using a Kitchener Stitch.
